I have been teaching at Holy Family Regional School for 19 years. This is my 9th year teaching Kindergarten and before that I taught third grade at Holy Family. Prior to teaching at Holy Family I taught for 11 years at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Lindenhurst.

The children were very excited to begin the school year. This class is very unique in the fact that it is a class of all girls. I told the children that this was the "girl's club". They found this very funny.
We have begun by reviewing our letter recognition, letter sounds and counting and writing numbers 1-10. Some of the children are struggling with this and so I am asking that the parents please practice and review these skills with your child.
In Reading we have begun with the letters Mm and Aa, and being able to recognize pictures that begin with that sound. The children have already learned 3 high frequency words. In Math the children have learned what a five frame is and that when placing counters in it, you always start from the left of the page. In Science we are learning about our five senses in which ones we use for certain things.
Next week is Johnny Appleseed's birthday and so we will be reading about him and making several projects to go along. October is not that far off and there are many things to celebrate during this month. We will celebrate the Feast of St.Francis on October 4th and also Columbus Day on October 9th and let's not forget Halloween and All Saint's Day.

It is hard to believe that September is half over. This class is a nice group and we should have a great year together.
